• The window sill must be located no higher than 44” For floors other than ground, the window sill must be located no lower than 36” from the floor.

Storefronts

PGT Industries (NASDAQ: PGTI), the nation’s leading supplier of residential impact-resistant windows and doors announced today the introduction of a new entry door and window system for its Architectural Systems product line. Developed for use in high design pressure applications, this commercial grade system provides the ultimate in impact-resistance and water intrusion protection.

This product series introduction expands PGT’s commercial product portfolio with solutions for storefront applications, hotels, office buildings and condominiums. With a combination of high design pressures and impact-resistant glazing it is the perfect choice for hurricane prone areas. The new storefront products join the existing Architectural Systems product line, which include single hung, horizontal roller and picture windows, and sliding glass doors.

PGT WinGuard Products

Our exclusive WinGuard® products combine heavy-duty window and door frames with impact-resistant laminated glass to ensure flying debris does not enter your home in the event of a major storm. A special silicone glazing process is used to keep the glass from breaking away from its frame. Although wind-borne debris may crack the glass on impact, the interlayer keeps the overall window intact, preventing destructive wind from entering your home. WinGuard with vinyl frames meets or exceeds International Building Code standards for air/water/structural and small and large missile impact protection and has Florida State Product Approval. WinGuard with aluminum frames has Miami-Dade Approvals to meet Florida’s most stringent code requirements for wind-borne debris protection and Florida State Product Approvals.

What does all of this mean to you and your home? If you’re looking for hurricane protection, WinGuard can withstand impacts from flying debris, followed by hurricane-force winds and the glass will still remain in its frame. . Even when you’re away, WinGuard Impact-Resistant Windows and Doors help guard your home effortlessly against hurricanes, improve energy efficiency and so much more.

Renew your home with PGT Impact-resistant windows and doors

Have you considered how much more you’re paying for air conditioning due to old , leaky windows? Or felt the cold air seeping in during winter? Do you have cranks that no longer crank, sliding doors or windows that no longer slide, or anodize aluminum frames that really look beat?

Replacing windows and doors that are outdated, defective or of inferior quality can add to your comfort, save on your energy bills and drop years off your home’s appearance. Your goal may be to increase your home’s livability, improve its resale value- or both. In either case, installing new PGT Custom Aluminum Windows and Doors is an improvement that will really pay off.

Miami-Dade County has the strictest test protocols in the country for wind-borne debris, air and water tests. The Miami-Dade County Notice of Acceptance (NOA) for impact-resistant products is the best way to be sure that a window has been tested and meets all the requirements for hurricane protection in the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (Miami-Dade and Broward counties). The Florida Building Commission recognizes Miami- Dade NOAs as approved products. WinGuard with aluminum frames carries Miami-Dade approval on all products.

Building Codes

New building codes and requirements have recently been enacted in several states to provide increased protection of lives and property in areas subject to hurricanes. Because code standards and requirements vary from state-to-state and among local jurisdictions, please check with your local building authority for the most recent code requirements

Florida

The Florida Building Code, effective as of March 1, 2002, sets stricter requirements for homeowners and builders. Depending on location, builders in coastal counties are required to build homes to withstand winds of 110 to 150 miles per hour. Installation of hurricane shutters or impact-resistant windows and doors such as PGT® WinGuard® meets this requirement.

Impact windows VS Non-impact windows

Why choose impact windows?

Non-impact windows made from tempered or annealed glass which can be broken easily by flying debris so they required hurricane shutters to protect them. In addition, the cost of non-impact windows and accordion shutters combine together is the same as the impact windows. Unattractive roll-down and accordion-style hurricane shutters offer no protection if you’re not home to close them every time a storm threatens.

Hurricane resistant windows and doors

Ready to replace your windows? Let there be light and security, energy efficiency, value, aesthetics, and less maintenance. Windows and doors aren’t merely accessories. Windows and doors have an impact on the beauty, value and livability of your home. They influence the environment in your house, affecting style and comfort, light and temperature and the safety of your greatest treasures- you, your family, and countless carefully chosen possessions.

Why PGT WinGuard Products?

The WinGuard product line was designed to the highest standards. WinGuard with aluminum frames meets Florida’s most stringent code requirements for wind-borne debris protection. The products have Miami-Dade and Florida State Product Approvals and pass TAS 201, 202 and 203 for air, water, structural, and both small and large missile impact protection. Impact-resistant products combine robust frames and impact-resistant laminated glass joined together by a silicone glazing process that helps keep the glass from breaking away from the frame. The laminated glass is created by bonding a polymer interlayer between two pieces of glass using high heat and pressure. Once sealed, the glass “sandwich” behaves as a single pane of glass but much, much stronger. Due to its unique physical properties, laminated glass is also the only glass to provide UV protection, sound insulation, easy maintenance and durability as well as safety and security.

More than just hurricane protection

Protection beyond Mother Nature

Breaking a window is the most common means of an intruder. But with WinGuard, the same effortless protection that guards against hurricane damage also deters intruders. While normal windows shatter easily upon contact, the durability of WinGuard keeps glass in one piece. Whether it be a major storm or an attempted break in, WinGuard helps keep you, your family and your home safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The same tough and resilient laminated glass that protects your house against nature also protects it against man-made threats, meaning intruders hoisting hammers, bricks, and pipes with glass-breaking intent. Even sophisticated little glasscutters are useless because laminated glass can’t be cut from only one side. It will take a lot of time, effort, and noise to get in. and what burglar has the stomach for that?

Energy Efficiency And Savings

Insurance companies are REQUIRED to provide premium discounts to homeowners with impact-resistant windows. You may even see as much as a 44% drop in your windstorm insurance premiums, since insurance companies consider these to be one of the best home improvement projects and homeowner can undertake. With impact-resistant windows and doors, you have a better protected and can factor that into a future sales price. Clear, simple and profitable.

In considering glass options, it’s valuable to compare how various options affect solar heat gain and visible light transmittance. Reducing solar heat gain can save on air conditioning bill. The Energy efficiency is improved when you select insulating glass or performance tints and low-E options. By filtering out 99% of UV rays, WinGuard helps shield your furniture, carpet, artwork and drapes from the effects of fading caused by the sun.

Dramatically reduce noise

WinGuard windows and doors can provide up to 32% reduction in perceived loudness for a standardized mixture of aircraft, railroad and vehicular traffic noise versus a dual pane window. The laminated glass in PGT WinGuard Impact-Resistant Windows and Doors absorb sound rather than transmitting it, which helps to keep the world and its disruptions outside where they belong. In fact, the same type of glass is often used in airports and recording studios to significantly reduce ambient noise.
